I figured since everyone else likes to repost political internet schlock, it was my turn...

John McCain recently tried to underscore his seriousness about pushing through a new energy policy, with a strong focus on more drilling for oil, by telling a motorcycle convention that Congress needed to come back from vacation immediately and do something about America’s energy crisis. “Tell them to come back and get to work!” McCain bellowed. Sorry, but I can’t let that one go by. McCain knows why.

It was only five days earlier, on July 30, that the Senate was voting for the eighth time in the past year on a broad, vitally important bill — S. 3335 — that would have extended the investment tax credits for installing solar energy and the production tax credits for building wind turbines and other energy-efficiency systems.

Both the wind and solar industries depend on these credits — which expire in December — to scale their businesses and become competitive with coal, oil and natural gas. Unlike offshore drilling, these credits could have an immediate impact on America’s energy profile.

Senator McCain did not show up for the crucial vote on July 30, and the renewable energy bill was defeated for the eighth time. In fact, John McCain has a perfect record on this renewable energy legislation. He has missed all eight votes over the last year — which effectively counts as a no vote each time. Once, he was even in the Senate and wouldn’t leave his office to vote.

On a side note while in Vegas I saw a great example of political ads that are less about what a candidate can do and more about flaming your opponent. Apparently, McCain who is pro nuclear energy has voted to keep nuclear waste out of his state (arizona) but wants to keep dumping the waste in Nevada. The ad was quite slimy but brought back memories of Carlin's famous "NIMBY" sketch.

Damn...i hate election years. Right about now I am too glad for my DVR so I can skip most of the crappy commercials.

McCain has run a shit campaign and the negativity that has permeated from his camp has been pretty tasteless. I have some thoughts on that energy bill, but will post it later.

Now you know why in the past half-century we opted to elect governors over senators.

Yeah McCains campaign is gonna make me vote for Obama. I was gonna just stay home but I was inspired not to....although there's still time for me to get overly cynical again.

I live in Arizona and won't vote this time around. Really no point, since McCain will no doubt defeat Obama in this state. McCain is extremely popular in Arizona.

You missed a lot.

Bottom line is that I don't trust Obama's opinion when it comes to nominating and appointing judges. More superficially I dislike lofty speeches and, to me, Obama's use of words like Hope and Change ring as hollow when republicans use words like Freedom and Liberty. With that said, however, I am fairly certain Obama's judical picks will be better than McCains.

You missed a lot.I did, but I still would have called BS a long time ago and predicted with assurance that you would give up your voting boycott and end up voting for Obama.
