"In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday."

This should be no surprise. McCain will win this election. McCain is certainly not a "perfect" Republican candidate but people will tend to align more with McCain's stance on the economy and energy.

Obama is just too full of rhetoric with all his "hope and change" nonsense. He better start getting substantive quickly if he hopes to have at least a shot at winning.

Which is funny, because the Democrats should not lose this election.

Just another poll but it goes into a little more detail. Also, IMO, polls should be taken with 1,000,000 grains of salt. It's very easy to phrase questions in such a way to achieve whatever results you want.

NBC/WSJ Poll: McCain halves Obama's lead

Hart lists three reasons. First, the conflict in Georgia as well as the Olympics have moved the news focus from the economy to foreign affairs, terrain that McCain finds more comfortable. Indeed, the poll shows McCain holding advantages over Obama in handling terrorism (51 to 23 percent), international crises (52 to 27 percent) and the war in Iraq (46 to 36 percent).

By comparison, Obama leads on health care (48 to 27 percent), the environment and global warming (47 to 21 percent), jobs and unemployment (47 to 25 percent), and improving the economy (42 to 30 percent).

Second, Hart explains that McCain’s barrage of negative TV ads against Obama — which began after the Democrat’s highly publicized overseas trip — seems to have worked so far. (Yet according to the poll, 29 percent believe McCain has been running a negative campaign, compared with just 5 percent who say that about Obama.)

And third, there are still doubts about Obama’s ability to be commander-in-chief. In the poll, 50 percent say they have confidence in McCain in that position. But just 39 percent say the same of the Illinois senator.

The article also talks about how Clinton supporters still aren't moving support to Obama. Just 1 in 2 have with something like 21% saying they'd vote for McCain and the other 27% saying they are still undecided or want to vote for someone else.

I don't care what the polls say. I look at what the candidates believe in and what their stances are and the substantive meat behind their stances.

McCain has solid proposals even if many disagree about their efficacy if implemented.

Obama is still all about hope, change, rainbows, unicorns, and the redistribution of wealth.

Hear me now, believe me later. McCain is going to destroy Obama in the debates and win the general election.
