It's almost like they're painting a bullseye for the British Muslim extremists.

I think we should carefully take into account Muslim's tender feelings before any media is displayed that might cause any offense, no matter how tangentially.

I've been following this (Richard Dawkin's is involved) and I haven't heard about Muslims being upset; I've only heard of Christians who are upset. One guy's group is saying that the ad is false advertising and is going through the process of getting the atheist ads taken down. The guy says that there plenty of evidence God exists and to suggest that God probably doesn't exist is a false and misleading claim...go figure.

The woman who started the ads (which is in the video in the Guardian link) said the atheist ads were in response to a Christian ad which had a web address where it told people they were going to Hell.

Anyway there are certainly extreme forms of Islam in the UK but I haven't heard any Muslims condemning the atheists ads...although maybe they are too busy getting Sharia law installed in the UK or getting the UN to add "no upsetting the delicate sensibilities of the religious" to the human rights thing. As in "I demand that you not offend me!" Maybe I missed it though.

The end of the video clip has Richard Dawkins commenting on why the religious cry "offense" when challenged...because they have nothing else; no arguments and no facts.

Atheism is going mainstream. This IMO is a good thing. A far cry from like 5 or 6 years ago when atheism was a dirty word. Yay for the so called "New Atheists". Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennet, Christopher Hitchens, and (of course) ME!! hehe.

Christians launch anti-atheist bus campaign
Ian Darby, Campaign 04-Feb-09, 17:55

LONDON - A trio of Christian groups have retaliated against The British Humanist Association's recent atheist bus campaign by booking their own pro-religious advertising on London buses.

The ads, from The Christian Party, the Trinitarian Bible Society and the Russian Orthodox Church, will run across CBS Outdoor bus sides for two weeks.

Ads from the Trinitarian Bible Society will run on 100 bus sides and carry a line from Psalm 53.1: "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God".

Last month, a campaign with the headline: "There is probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life" broke across London and other UK cities after The British Humanist Association raised £140,000 in donations to fund six weeks of activity.

And the rest of the Bible passage:

1 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God."
They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity;
there is none who does good.

2 God looks down from heaven
on the children of man
to see if there are any who understand,
who seek after God.

3 They have all fallen away;
together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.

and (depending on version of the Bible you prefer):

1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.

3 Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Lol. So that Christian group that wanted to have the atheist signs stopped has had their own ads censored.

During the investigation, Christian Voice’s Stephen Green said: ‘It is preposterous for the ASA to think they can outlaw Christian freedom of speech.’

edited to add more Chrisitian ads:

The Christian Party has paid $22,000 to run ads declaring: "There definitely is a God. So join the Christian Party and enjoy your life," in red, pink and orange letters.

...

And the Russian Orthodox Church has joined in with an ad reading: "There is a God, believe. Don't worry and enjoy your life."
