Not until I opened a can of tuna fish today did I wonder how other people drain that nasty water out of the can. I think most people probably do it the same way I do it, but Im not sure. And if they do, I wonder if its something people just do because its obvious, or somewhere along the way someone showed you how they do it. Maybe Im the latter, but I can't remember. So, how do you drain your can of tuna?

Armin, you have too much time to think.

Come play WoW. I'll help you level.

you cut around the lip with a can cutter and then squish the tuna against the lid in a CAN VICE OF DOOM.

that's it! you'd think by now someone could come up with an easier way of doing it. I mean, now you have orange juice containers with nozzles, you dont have to fight the folds and make stupid bends on the top of the containers anymore. Gnioss, dont make any more suitcase bombs, make an easy drain tuna can.

tuna in a can is so much cheaper

and yeah I use the squish technique, gotta make sure you leave a tiny sliver of metal on the top to hold on to the side that way you get enough angle for drainage without getting on you, and its easier to pull the lid out too.

I eat a lot of tuna and have been cut like 4 times on my fingers from those bastardized lids.. they need something better!

If you get a side can opener (as opposed to the traditional top end can opener) you just cut about 85% of the can tilt it and the weight of the tuna will bend the lid enough to drain the juice with no tuna dropping out. Tilt it back and finish opening the can. Piece of cake.

I prefer to completely sever the entire top part of the can. Once I do that, I turn the can upside down, and push the lid up into the tuna, forcing the water out the sides. If you leave a small piece of metal, it will cause the lid to snap onto the tuna, and then you get tuna splash, and tuna juice is just nasty. Then you just squeeze the can and use your fork to pull the lid off, then scoop out the tuna.

I f you do that, you'll have really soggy tuna. Unless you like soggy tuna, its important to use the lid as a vice (as gnioss said) to force as much skank tuna juice out of the can as possible.

Wow, Mutt is all fancy with his method. If I ever have tuna (only one time a year, normally, I crave it), or chicken breast in a can (for chicken salad) then I use the lid squeeze method! VERY EASY AND SIMPLE and no one taught me how to do it, I JUST DO IT LIKE A NIKE.

About 90% of tuna that you'll see, in a can or not, is Albacore. I'll also let you know, Mr. fresh tuna advocate, that if you're one of those people who say OMG MERCURY IN TEH FISH WILL KILLZ ME....fresh tuna generally has higher mercury content than canned chunk light.

Aradorn

I do the standard squishie method into the sink drain, cutting off the whole lid of the can.

HEY so Trader Joe's has the BEST tuna in a can, its only $1.49 a can and its super yummy. Also they have it in olive oil and DAMN its tasty. I am going to be a spokesmodel for Trader Joe's because its my favorite store in the whole world.

Cinnabar

$1.49? I pay like 50 cents for a regular sized(150 cals) can and about $1.20 for a large(300 cals)...both chunk light in water.

It might be tastier straight out of the can in olive oil but it's also much higher in fat and calories. 1 tsp fat free mayo + a little relish + hard boiled egg whites 4tw.

Mez

Of course its higher in fat and calories, but its the good fat. I only buy the olive oil one for special tuna occasions.

AND I live in Seattle, you live in Texas. Everything cost a hundred times more than down there in the south.

If you are using the lid to squish then you didnt read what i said about can openers. This method cuts off the lip from the side, not the top. No sharp can lids, and it can drain all the juice no problem. I used to eat 3 cans of tuna a day for 6 months. Starfrit can openers 4tw.

I read what you wrote, but no can opener can force as much water out of the can as using the lid can, whether you open it from the top, bottom, side, or inside-out.

Quite the opposite of my taste, I LOVE seafood. Seafood meat taste so sweet: Lobster, Shrimp, and scalllops. Theres a bike trail that passes really close to a chinese place that serves great seafood. With an almost ungodly amount of rice that my mom usually saves for later meals.

They should make this contraption that you just put down in your sink. All metal kindav like an OJ press.

Except you open the can of tuna normally then flip it over with the lid cut but still inside. Then you mash down the lever which presses the back of the can down. You would get tons of leverage to get it really dry..and non of the skank juice would get all over your hands. Then take the can off and rinse the press off right there in the sink.

One can dream . . .
