Does anyone own either? I'm thinking about getting a 30" but want some personal experience versus random customer reviews.

lol, just giving you a hard time.

It won't be used for my comp so DVI isn't really an issue. It'd just be a perk. It may occasionally be used for xbox. I'm concentrating on the HDTV factor(not looking for something that is only HDTV Ready) for tv/movies.

plasma screens tend to burn the images of frequently watched shows into them...

LCDs dont have this problem

Viewing range on LCDs might be a bit better on LCDs as well I cant remember (most are about 170 degrees)

LCD is also cheaper..

Mitsubishi 60" DLP Rear Projection HDTV 4tw. :p: If you have the room and the money, that's the way to go. Stay away from the Samsung DLP's, hell stay away from Samsung anything.

Plasma definitely has burn-in issues (especially if you tend to keep the same channel on all the time. The channel logo in the lower corner will burn in). The display plasma TV's at the local Ultimate Electronics had burn in lol, kind of hard to sell someone one of those TV's when they see that kind of crap (no wonder they filed for bankruptcy).

If its LCD vs Plasma only then go LCD.

Ven,

I don't think Tone will appreciate you cheating on him.

At any rate, thought you were going to move in with me and Dong. Why are you leading Cinn on?

Have to agree with the Mitsubishi prop. Their rear projection HDTV's are crisp, no huge risk of burn-in (though there is some risk if you leave the same channel on 24/7)

I've had mine for about 2 years now, and really enjoy the viewling angles, as well as the picture quality. I can only imagine the newer models are as good if not better.

I won't have room for a projection. My new place is going to be roughly 950 sq ft. It'll be wall-mounted with my couch about 10-12 ft away.

I was also considering an EDTV as they are considerably cheaper and from what I have read, unless you are a complete videophile, comparing the two side-by-side, or very close....you can't really tell the difference with a HDTV cable signal(or DVDs).

I have a 46" plasma TV; however, it is not HDTV.

I haven't had any problems with images being burned into the screen and I've owned the TV for just shy of a year now.

The picture quality is not HDTV. But the price was also not HDTV price.

It's fun. Gets a neat reaction from people and it still has a decent picture.

I have no complaints what-so-ever.

But one warning. The shelflife of plasma TVs isn't huge. And to invest in a plasma HDTV is a serious chunk of change. Might want to consider going Just big screen tube tv.

Hell, mine was 3-large out the door with no bells or whistles.

I went and looked at a 46" Samsung DLP last night and it was pretty sexy. :puppy_dog I'm starting to think that I should go with a 42" DLP rear projection(if they exist in that size) but it'd have to be thin profile sort of like the Samsung with a much better price. 12-15" depth tops.

HELP ME SIRIDEAN!

The reason I hate Samsung is we deal with their camera side of the business on a regular basis and they're awful.

A few examples:

They don't have a parts department. If you need lets say, a zoom gear, they'll disassemble a camera and send you all the gears in the zoom train because they have no idea which one you want (god forbid you need something "complicated").

They bought Rollei about 10 years ago and trashed Rollei's reputation so badly, that Rollei bought the company back from Samsung so they could restore their reputation (Btw, don't buy a Rollei either until they've rid themselves of all the Samsung crap cameras).

In the camera industry, Samsung doesn't actually design their own products. They buy the rights to crappy failures from other camera manufacturer's, make a cheaper version of it and put it in a pretty package at a low price.

Now does this mean their other products like phones and TV's are crap too? No idea, but quite frankly, I ain't gonna find out the hard way.

I forgot about front projection TV's as a solution to your problem. Its perfect for limited space and DLP resolution is good enough that you can use it as a monitor.

Here's a link to a site comparing LCD vs DLP:

http://www.projectorcentral.com/lcd_dlp.htm

I personally wanted to go with a front projection TV, but couldn't afford one. I went with a Philips 30" CRT HDTV (perfect size for a small apt living room). It has none of the problems of other TV types and it has a RGB connector so I can use it as a monitor if I wanted to.

P.S. OMG, did you see that Mitsubishi has come out with a 82" DLP?

EDIT: Check out this front projection TV: Limited time sale
