Very interesting concept with perma-death and the bloodlines thing. Also some very pretty screenshots although I'd like to see what some of the character models look like.

Looks like a somewhat small design team, I hope the implementation goes off.

Eh, I haven't touched a game in over a month. If I did this it would be a very small amount of time. I took a second job as a youth tennis instructor on Sundays. More moolah!

Tennis is the shiet. It's one of the hardest sports to get good at.

Tennis rules.

My wife is amazing at tennis. She won us 2 CLub Med vacations and she was ranked #1 in the USTA Eastern womens open a few years ago. If you play tennis in NY you probably know her, heh. SInce she's been a baby producing machine, she hasn't played seriously in a few years but I bet she'd still beat cinnabar =P

I've taken home district varsity championships. That counts for something. :puppy_dog

I do have to say though -- women's tennis with the exception of maybe five ATP top players is one of the most annoying things to watch. Most of them have really odd strokes and are not nearly aggressive enough in their court movements.

lol almost every tennis person I know says womens tennis is so much more interesting to watch...ya know people enjoy long rallies and service breaks

sometimes mens tennis is ultra boring, big serves, big forehands, short points

as far as womens stroke being odd, yer crazy

Personally I just like how the women yell and scream whenever they hit the ball :p:

Have you ever watched professional women's tennis in mass quantities? For the love of God, approach the net! I realize that people have different playstyles and many are baseliners but it's like the whole female gender will not go past the service line.

lol, my coach at my first high school would make us watch tourneys the day after he recorded them for fundamentals but it'd usually be Kournakova.

"Ohh yeahh look at her move...yeahhh oh man that backhand...mmm"

And we would all just sort of sit there like :swtf:

Cinnabar... god... well, maybe we can play the texas school system for this one. Although you probably were the one that broke it :)

I think part of the problem is the surfaces. Also wasn't there talk of changing the T line closer to the net to make the game not so service dominant? Serve and volley is so boring to watch, not like many people (including men) do it much anymore.

ANd yeah, women don't approach much but their strokes are fine.

My wife used to play against high ranking juniors (boys and girls). She'd make them cry, literally. Their coaches would seek her out because here in NY, if you play tennis, you know my wife.

Cinnabar

You really only see less net play from men amongst the professional level. Anything lower and it's extremely common. You see very little from women on all levels. What did you mean by a surface problem?

Diraker
02-09-2005, 11:27 AM
where vollyers (sp) like grass, baseliners like hardcourt, etc. How different surfaces favor certain playstyles. I dunno, just seems cheap when a serve volleyer wins a grass tournament.

I like clay because it's fun to slide. But I'm not a player.

Anyway the tennis scene in NY is different than Texas. In NY 50% of the year you need to play inside. So the tennis club scene in NY is huge. It can be sorta elitest (my wife is a tennis snob, har!). In Texas you can play all year round outside so clubs aren't as needed. So maybe tennis isn't as elitest in Texas. I dunno just killing time while my daughters are eating.

Cinnabar
02-09-2005, 11:38 AM
Yes, it's outside pretty much year round here. I've played on both indoor(astroturf) and outdoor grass courts and can't stand them but i've played on hard courts my whole life which is probably why.

There are plenty of clubs here but as far as I know from experience, it's not an elitist thing, it's just where most people go for lessons.

Diraker
02-09-2005, 12:09 PM
wow astroturf, I've never seen that

I played 1 'real' tennis tournament in my life. It was at a Club Med and they had some tournaments. My wife won the MENS singles, and me and my wife won the MENS doubles. I don't play tennis, but I'm not a spaz or anything (I run a 4.6 40 and played baseball and football)...But in tennis I don't even know where to stand...Anyway I even aced this one guy who thought he was good. He was playing way up on my serve. I totally had to hold my own because everyone could easily see that I was the FAR weaker player. My wife was handicapped by playing with me heh.

yay for me and this summer I hope to play

Cinn, do you have a rating or ranking or anything?

Cinnabar
02-09-2005, 12:27 PM
Nope, don't play competitively anymore. I played USTA for a little while but didn't have the time to invest so I just stuck with school(5A UIL and then 3A at my second high school).

It is possible that the open beta will be starting within the next week as long as the release isn't delayed.

According to this (http://www.realmsoftorment.net/forums/showthread.php3?threadid=17374&perpage=15&pagenumber=1) post, the beta has been pushed out until at least March 1st with the launch pushed back accordingly.

One thing I do like about this game, though, is that it's a very small and tight knit community. They don't expect to have over 4000 preorders. Most of the memberbase has been following it for years and stuck around so I have a feeling that it will do fairly well.

Wow, 4.6 40....im impressed bro. What position did you play?

I played through college...I ran a 4.5 myself, 6.8 60 (60 times are more important in Baseball, whereas football is the 40) I played Centerfield and hit lead off.

Did you play in college?

Diraker
02-25-2005, 02:17 PM
I played baseball in high school. This is where I was timed. Also I was timed at 3.9 in the 30 (30 yeah wierd). I have great acceleration but my flat out top speed isn't so great. In baseball I could play any position (Mr. Utility) but I considered myself best at 2nd base, SS, or third base. I had a great arm so sometimes I would pitch and several time I threw people out at first from centerfield. In little league the coaches called me 'hands' because of my fielding. My last year of baseball I was 32 for 46 (hitting) and I had only 1 game where I didn't get a hit (0-2 with 1 walk)

I got tired of HS baseball politics (hehe) and joined track, where I did the 100, 200, long jump, high jump, and 4X100 relay. I wasn't so great in to 100, doing high 12's, but in the 200 I'd do better (enough to place or show or otherwise earn points) doing under 24. Long jump I'd get over 18 feet and high jump like 5'7"...high jumping was rare though. Our team did excellent in the 4X100...our baton handling skills ruled.

I never played organized tackle football but I played many years in a flag football league (8 vs 8 with 3 down lineman, was huge where I live), I played safety and pretty much did most of the play designing for the offense (sometimes I played WR). On defense we generally played a 2 deep zone, I totally took away the deep threats. (hehe and it was always hard to find a second saftey that could not seem like a chump, afterall they had ME on the other side). People would say I was one of the best safties in the league...I didn't argue.

I didn't do any sports in college, I was too busy drinking and partying heh. Once though I did play stickball (another home town huge sport) with some college players and they were really impressed.

Now before I come across as conceited or whatever I'll say that I sucked at cross country (which I also did in HS), shit the girls would start like 5 min after the boys...they'd pass me. I'd run the 5k in like 22 minutes...not good. I suck at basketball because I foul on defense and I can't dribble well.

The beta invites got sent and people have downloaded the client.

Realms of Krel is officially entering open beta.

Seems only those who pre-ordered have been invited to open beta (so far). I did read that only half the open beta slots had been filled by people who pre-ordered and that the remaining spots will be filled randomly from those who signed up for beta.

I signed up for beta months ago but didn't pre-order, so I can only hope I get lucky. :p:
