To whom it may concern:
I am currently writing this letter in a complete state of awe. Despite the fact that I have been forced to complain a number of times regarding my carrier, she still continues to disappoint me. Let me explain to you, in detail, my problems with my current carrier.
My first poor impression of her deals with laziness. The sheer fact that apparently it is too much effort to push down the outgoing mail flag (a little red plastic flag) attached to our mailbox after the outgoing mail has been picked up.
Also, our carrier continues to put packaged items and parcels in supermarket plastic bags and hang them on the outgoing mail flag. As a result she has broken our mailbox on 3 occasions and my landlord has had to come and fix it. Occasionally, instead of hanging them, she may take the liberty of stuffing oversized items into our mailbox producing squished and sometimes broken items.
I have called the national hotline, spoken with representatives from your headquarters and our local branch, and yet our problems resiliently persist. I must say, I have no quarrel with the manager who seems to be trying hard to remedy the issues. She even promised me that the following arrangements would be made: a) if the mail fits in the mail box without being forced or warped, it will be placed in the box; if the mail does not fit, it will be brought to our door, our bell will be rung, and the item will be placed at our entrance, and; if the weather is such that it would damage a package (rain, heavy winds, snow, etc.) then it will remain with the carrier and be brought to the post office where I may pick it up. Unfortunately, these standards were not met.
I have some family in Florida and a small niece and nephew that I don't often see. As a law school graduation present, my niece and nephew went to the beach and picked out some sea shells and fine sand. My sister and brother-in-law packaged the gift in 2 Ziploc bags with a layer of surrounding bubble wrap, and placed it in a priority mail flat rate box filled with Styrofoam peanuts. They then proceeded to tape the box so much so, that it would seem able withstand a tornado. Unfortunately, they did not count on the natural disaster that is my mail carrier.
The package was sent on Thursday the 6th, marked fragile and perishable, and it did not arrive until today the 11th. I have been home all day studying for an exam in our living room right by our front door. At no point today did my carrier bring a package to my door or ring the bell. Instead, around 4:30PM, I went to check my mail and saw that she came and went; and she only left a pick-up receipt.
After traveling to the post office, I asked to speak with the manager, again, who seemed disgusted that these problems were still persisting. I was then embarrassed by one of her workers who, upon warning me, brought out a shredded box while holding her nose exclaiming loudly that it smelt like fish. Apparently she had the nose of a bloodhound, because she was the only one who thought the sea shells smelled like "spoiled fish." She then proceeded to mark the box: "received damaged" in the system as she created a nice scene. Unfortunately, I did not get to tell her that not only was she insulting and embarrassing me, she was insulting two thoughtful children who love their Uncle, dearly. Needless to say, when I arrived home and finished opening the already tattered and abused package, the shells that were once beautifully picked with a child's love were mere dust and chippings. I have attached a photo of the package exactly how I received it.
In conclusion, I would like to say that I have never in my wildest imagination thought I would be dealing with such childish and lazy people at the USPS. My past experiences with mail carriers had been outstanding, and I have even left holiday cards for them. Now I feel as though I have been abused by the very people who promise to "handle with care." I can now only hope that appropriate disciplinary actions will be instituted, because I can no longer bear having this woman carry, drop, smash and eviscerate my mail.
Cordially,

PS I also had a priority mail envelope show up torn open in my mail box on the morning of Saturday the 8th.
