Not really surprising, this is what happens when you make a good OS and have it in a decent range of devices for different users. Apple only has the iPhone, BB and Android both have phones for all sorts of users.

I have an iPhone, it's got upsides, and downsides. As a phone it's decent, but the big picture it's pretty average. Too much big brother type restrictions on it, battery life kinda blows if you don't shut off WiFi and Bluetooth. No big shock it's losing ground to Android and other things, the hardware itself is aging poorly, and the lack of multi tasking and general sluggishness of operation make other options much more attractive.

I think the most surprising part is how fast the iphone has given up the market share. Android hasnt been out that long

iPhone 4G will probably reverse that trend. Big hardware upgrade with additional software support for multitasking.

Also Apple has a single phone, whereas there are many Android and BB devices so it's not exactly an (*cough*) Apples to Apples comparison.

iphone will continue to lose market share... I just dont understand why it took 2 years before decent competitors came around

apple manages to market themselves very well to the upper middle class who don't mind paying a little extra for the name and a generally well put together device.

I just got an HTC incredible with Droid and at least for now it vastly outperforms the iphone 3GS, once the iphone 4g comes out it will be less amazing, but considering I only paid $150 and I get to use verizon I'm pretty damn happy.
