The movie is a pretty cool concept. Nearly all of the actors are active seals, and they also closely worked with the production company to ensure tactics and equipment were accurate. It's a little more thorough than the us military lending Michael bay a bunch of hardware.

A detailed look at Squad refinements

Today's PC client patch features numerous tweaks to Squad functionality and is part of our ongoing efforts to make it easier to play with friends and Platoon mates. These changes will also be implemented for consoles when we release the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 updates shortly. Stay tuned for the exact date of the console updates.

First, we need to look at how joining with Squads and Platoons affects the balance of teams. Initially, servers are commanded to equal out each side, so joining with friends can impact that balance while joining with Platoons further hinders this. As a result we have made some adjustments to the in-game Squad management screen.

For PC, you are now able to highlight the various Squads and select which one you wish to join by selecting a Squad and then clicking the Join Squad button. Please note that the Squad Privacy option still allows 2 man Squads which, during 64 player sessions, can lead to players with no squad position –- the number of people with no Squads will be shown at the bottom of the Squad selection list.

After the patch is applied to consoles (in the near future) you will be able to join Squads by cycling through the list and selecting which Squad you wish to join.

Apparently EA has decided what drive I am allowed to run their game on for me. It forces you to use your windows drive. Origin makes it mandatory to install on your C:. Afterward, I moved it to my video game drive. It forced me to install BF3 into a folder that it auto-creates on my C:. Afterward, I moved the game into the appropriate folder on my video game drive. It then told me that BF3 was not installed.

Yep. I've spent upwards of two hours combing the internet for solutions. I've tried everything I've seen on forums, including using the command prompt to reregister some blah blah tech jargon bullshit that I don't even understand. No idea why it won't work, but I'm just tired of messing with it now.

Also, is it just me or is it impossible to join any friends games? I've seen a couple of you playing, and when I try to click Join Game, it's just grayed out and doesn't work.

You guys have got to see this curse that I have. For some reason, I'm cursed in online games. Even when I play well, whatever team I'm on seems destined to lose. I've kept a tally in past MMOs for BGs, and without fail, there are always more losses than wins by a large margin. It's starting to get ludicrous now:

I'm not the best player or anything...but I've gone 2 and 22 so far, playing at different times, on different servers, on different days. There is no way I am sucking enough to bring down teams of 31 other players. Especially when I'll frequently place in the top 5 or 10 on my teams.

Alright, well firstly I disagree that it would be possible for me to suck so bad that I make any team that I'm on lose that frequently.

Secondly though, your theory is moot because I actually focus exclusively on the objectives of a map. I don't only focus on getting kills, and in-fact, my kill-death ratio is usually in the toilet on games like this because I'm the one running in to revive 3 people before getting blown away, or rushing in for a cap or to plant a charge, or trying to outflank a tank to take it out so it stops rampaging on my entire team. If all I cared about was k/d, I'd fly, or play as recon, neither of which I enjoy doing.

I actually thought you might have been being sarcastic at first, but if you're seriously suggesting that I am the reason my teams lose that frequently, I'm just at a loss for how to better convince you that I actually know how to play the game, and am not a selfish player. And my mind is still boggled by the fact that even if I was a completely selfish player, how that would be able to influence 22 separate teams, on separate servers, into forcing them to lose. So, this means that every player on every team that ever wins a match are all playing for the objectives and not playing selfishly? Because, if what you're insinuating is true, surely a horrible and/or selfish player, even just one, would bring the entire team down into defeat...

I actually enjoy discussing my curse because it fascinates me lol. Let's assume that I am a horrible and selfish player. I can see how you might make the case that it comes down to which team has more of them. But, again we're back to square one of me being inexplicably linked to the teams which have more. Assuming I'm a shitty player, how am I so frequently defying the odds of being on a team which cannot overcome my bad play? How am I so frequently on the team with worse players to such a staggering w/l %?

The point I'm getting at is that I am not a bad player. From my entirety of gaming experience, I'm above average even. Even if I were a horrible player, it still wouldn't explain it. But, I'm not...I'm a good player... So it's even more inexplicable.

You could try switching to the team with the most high level players when you join a server and see if that helps. Another option would be to play on a 24/7 rush server, where you can single-handedly get the win for your team. I've always found that the baddies on my team as attackers won't bother pushing up to try and plant but the baddies on the other team won't try to defuse it either.

Ya, I should play more Rush. I've been playing almost exclusively Conquest, but I like to mix it up.

Wow, that is some miserable team performance you got there Mourne. I just dropped under 1.00 w/l ratio myself. I think it is mostly because I was focusing on using helos. I'm at the point now where I'm getting pretty good in them and starting to actually help against the other side. It is just hard as hell to use those things without a good gunner.

Especially in maps with low numbers, it is really easy to get behind on the control points if you aren't careful and hard to make the tickets up. The server itself is important too. I found a few where all the good players stack up on one side and obliterate the pubs. Not a good scene if you are trying to gain points.

Yeah, I ran into a server like that tonight actually. One team had tons of great players and the other team (my team naturally lol) had all the noobs that were level 1 - 10. I didn't stay on that server long though, my blood pressure can't handle it.

I actually got 2 wins tonight, both on Rush maps in which I helped plant on objectives. Perhaps my curse is relegated to Conquest only lol.

Mourne...I figured out why you had trouble with the install location. It doesn't give you a chance to designate the install directory before it starts the game installation after you've installed origin from the disc. You have to cancel the BF3 installation in origin, change the directory, and then start it again from the disc. The alternative is to install origin ahead of time from EA's site and change the directory before putting in the BF3 installation disc.

You can just uninstall/reinstall if you don't want it on your C: drive.

I digitally purchased it from Origin, so haven't a CD.

I'm trying one more last ditch effort. If it doesn't work I'm just giving up. I have installed Origin to my B: (the drive for my games). I tried to cheat by transferring the entire BF3 folder from my C: Origin Games folder, to the Origin Games folder on the B: from the fresh installation. Origin does not recognize that I have it, and only allows me to redownload it from scratch. I am now having to redownload it (already changed the download/installation directory of Origin to the B:) and hopefully it works. If not, I'm giving up, as I'm tired of redownloading this 11.5 gigs over and over lawl.

Edit: Ok, I think I'm beginning to see a problem. There is a file that got created by Origin on my C: (even though I installed it to my B:) located at C: > ProgramData > Origin. I notice this because in the Origin settings, where I changed the downloaded games folder to my B:, there is a game installer folder located at C: > ProgramData > Orign > Download Cache

I'm guessing that this probably has something to do with things being jumbled up. The really confusing thing to me is that this ProgramData folder is hidden from me and the only way to access it is by clicking "Change" on the settings tab of Origin, when it instantly navigates to this folder. I can't even run a search for ProgramData (it finds nothing). WTF is going on....

Edit2: I just created a ProgramData folder on my B: and transferred the Origin folder to it. I have a feeling this whole thing is going to wind up with me just having to go back to having everything on my C: again though... I can't even delete the old Origin folder from the C: version of ProgramData because "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program." Which is impossible because Origin is closed, and I used task manager to close any unrecognized processes. Fuck this bullshit...

Edit3: Allllllrighty. I am now completely enraged. After all of this fucking around with installation directories, as soon as I clicked on the "Download Now" button for BF3, Origin just created a brand new Origin Games folder located on my C: where it is now downloading BF3 to. EXCELLENT. So. I installed Origin to B:. I set BOTH the download location AND the download cache locations to my B:. And now BF3 is default downloading itself to my C: by autonomously creating its own folder to the C:. I'm at a loss.

The icing on top is that I'm still clinging to hope that maaaaaybe it will work when it's finished downloading. In order to rule out this possible solution, I'm allowing it to finish downloading. Unfortunately, I see it as 99% unlikely, meaning that this 2 hour download is in vain,and will result in another 2 hour download back onto the C:.

These are the exact steps that I took:

1) Install Origin to B:
2) Change Origin default download directory to B:
3) Change Origin default downloadcache directory to B:
4) Install BF3 (forced to download to C: - see above post).
5) Cut/Paste entire BF3 folder into the corresponding B: folder.
6) Run game.

"Unable to launch Battlefield 3™. Please make sure this game is installed properly and try again.

I give up.

Edit: LOL After closing and reopening Origins, there isn't even a way to launch BF3 anymore. Just a "ready to download" button. Hilarious.

I had issues if I didnt reboot after I uninstalled. It went back to the same directory I had BF3 in before, even though in origin I set a whole new drive location for installs.

Does anyone use any different binding set up? I'm finally playing the SP and I'm not sure how I feel about the right mouse for zoom. That's the one thing I'm having trouble getting used to. I have a logitech g15 keyboard, a razer exact mat surface, and a razer copperhead first edition. Any suggestions on getting used to the controls or something I should buy?

hmm, I've always had right-click be zoom in every fps game that has offered a zoom/iron sights option for as far back as I can remember. Do you usually play fps games on consoles?

Maybe you could make your zoom hotkey a key you can hit with your pinky, since it would only get used for sprint, which can't be done while zoomed anyhow.

RMB is the most effective key for it as your other hand is busy controlling your movement.
