I liked BF Vietnam, but the endless random explosions everywhere kinda sucked.

Still gonna get the new BF though, looks great.

Im also waiting for BF2. Its far more team based the games like Counterstrike and its on a larger scale. Clan play in games like BF: DC is nothing short of awesome. Individual skill and teamwork rules the day.

They said that one of their biggest concerns with BF2 is to make it run on almost everybodys machine having alot of options to toggle down for better performance.

BF1942's release was indeed sloppy but once they patched it was a decent game. Fortunately enough it had great mod support which allowed for the creation of BF: Desert Combat, a more modern era of fighting and to me it was much more entertaining.

For BF2 they actually hired the DC mod team and had them assist in the creation of BF2 with the level building and the models and such. They also hired the creator of the Pirate mod to be head of mod development on their staff, so he'll be dealing with helping everyone figure out the technical aspects of modding.

Oh and last I checked there are already over 120 teams signed up on TWL (Tourny Ladder) ready to go when BF2 releases. Basicly its pulling all the BF comunity from 1942, Vietnam, Desert Combat.. as well as Many Call of Duty and Tribes clans. Should be awesome.

I have some concerns about the new "commander" roll as well as the persistant char leveling. Not sure how they will effect the gameplay.

Figured Id explain how a Battlefield match takes place.

First of all both teams start out with a certain amount of "tickets" this verys from game to game so lets just say each team has 1000 tickets. The object of the game is to reduce the enemys team to 0 tickets.

There are two key ways to do this. Tickets represent "reinforcements" (aka respawning in and rejoining the battle) therefor each time you die and respawn you use up one ticket.

The other way is the more important one. While each team starts at their perspective side of the map inbetween them are key capture points indicated by flags. To capure them you simply have to "control" the flag area for a certain amount of time. Meaning no enemys can be around. Once you capture a point your forces can Respawn there and usually some armor like APC's or maybe a Tank will spawn as well.

Once you capture a majority of the points it will begin a ticket "bleed" on the enemy. Basicly they will lose a ticket every x amount of time depending on the severity of the bleed you have. So your main objective is to capture and hold key locations around the map as well as defend your own base.

Typicaly clan play is devided into positions. At the begining of the map the leader will assign a roll to everyone. For example if there are two Tanks on the map maybe Saleen would be assigned to tank1 with Numb as his Engineer. Currently clan play is 10v10 or 16v16 and I dont expect that will change for BF2.

One thing to note is that the design of the game doesnt create a "Front Line" feel. Since control points are spread out usually and can be approched from all angles clans usually devide themselves into squads of 3-5 to move in and capture or defend flags. This really leaves for alot of strats. You can have your air support fly in and desimate a flag area then have your ground troops rush in supported by a tank or two.

Also keeping enemy armor out of comission can win the game. If you can sneak in and steal one of their tanks you're now up an extra tank over them which can be huge.

In a match you play two 15 min games first one is on one side and the second is on the other. The team with the most tickets left overall is the winner. I actually saw the World Final for the BF: V tourny and it came down to ONE ticket. So damn close.

Man this game is awesome. At first I didnt really like ground combat because it wasnt like CS but then I finally realized that you cant play it like you play CS and started to have a blast with ground combat.

I instantly went for Air combat and can dominated the air. I just got off a game where I went the entire round without being shot down and killed 9 aircraft and 26 people.

Earlier yesterday I got together with some old friends who have also been playing BF2 alot and we got into teamspeak and had a good 8 man squad going with comander. It was absolutely amazing, me with four others on foot were pinned down at a flag by a tank so we "spotted" it which puts it on all friendly radars and called our buddy in the air to come take it out. Few seconds later the aircraft flys over and blows up the tank. As we continued to defend the flag point we killed a good 8 guys before we started to fall so we called for our squad leader to pull back while the rest of us hold them off. Eventually our comander called in an artilery strike on the flag as we had been killed and the flag was being taken. Fortunately you can spawn back at your squad leader who wasnt far due to him falling back as requested and we quickly came back and recovered the flag area.

That was just one small fight of the night.

Another highlight of the night for me was I had set a "trap" with 4 bricks of C4 on a road between two capture points. While Im safely camped out on a rooftop watching the road Donar comes rolling through with a buggie unaware of his imminant explosion. BOOM! lawl..

Yet another was this dude kept stealing our chopper so I planted C4 all over it and waited for him to take it. Idiot once again jumps in and starts to fly off. BOOM! 1 pt for me!

One of the Choppers has two machine guns on either side and we flew into an enemy capture point one guy on each gun and totally just mowwed everyone down and took the point.

This game is so fun when you have serious teamwork going on.

I played it all weekend, it's a lot of fun. I'm going to get it for sure when it's released (June 22 I think?)

Medic, Spec Forces and Assault were the classes I played the most. Medic was my favorite just because reviving people in battle is huge. Plus the gun is really good (M16A2), only thing is it shoots in 3 round bursts so it eats ammo quick.

It's a crime how bad they noobed down the helicopters. You can't do hardly anything at all in them in bf2. I'll buy it once someone makes a mod with fun helos.

so are the physics for aircraft and heli's as fucked as they are in every other version of BF?

Slak
06-14-2005, 03:02 AM
I liked the physics for planes in bf1942....

Personally tho i dont like the planes in BF2 as much. Just seem to be off a bit when an f16 is fighting heli's...

Mutt
06-14-2005, 04:07 AM
I dled it tonight. seems pretty cool. loving the Special forces aspect of it. I like how each role has a definite position to play. Still cant figure out how to get in the gunner spot when theres no driver.

Maj
06-14-2005, 09:54 AM
I like the planes in BF2 alot better actually, they give much more exciting dog fights then in 1942. Helicopters are a different story.

Mutt, try the F keys... ^_^

Maj
06-14-2005, 09:57 AM
The Physics actually seem more real in BF2 but flying is definately less challenging.

On a side note, going to try to get atleast a 5 man squad going later tonight if anyone wants jump on.

I dont really like it playing by myself, squad play with people you know is where it really shines.

Maj

So once again I have to share my experience.

I start out a fresh round deciding to play the commander roll so I spawn at my usual commander spot which is kinda elevated and in the center of the map originally controlled by the side Im on. Unfortunately I didnt get the commander since someone grabbed it up before me so I was like oh whatever and kinda bummed out I decide to stay and defend that point neglecting everyone else.

Im my usual Special Ops kit so I have C4 and decide to "rig" the area by placing 5 bricks of C4 in key places around the site just incase I get overwealmed. Then I go and hide in the normal area in a building that is under construction right next to the flag. After a good 5 or 6 kills I see an Enemy APC rolling in supported by a few ground troops I throw some lead in their direction hoping to get lucky and then as they return fire I back off and hide behind a walla. Peaking out I notice that the area is completely overwealmed with enemys and without a second thought I blew up the C4 killing 8 guys. After a few seconds I look out and notice that its clear and once again begin to defend the area. Unlucky for me the enemy caught on quick and as one stupid troop falls once again to a few well placed rounds Im struck hard from a sniper taking me to about 10% health. Realizing Im pretty much fucked I back off into the building and try to make my way around to see if I can find the sniper. Unfortunately for me while Im sniper hunting I didnt pay attention to what was sneaking up behind and got shot in the back from close range.

At this point all is lost I make another last ditch effort to save the flag from enemy control but am quickly shot down. Now the enemy has all controlable points and is has established a very commanding lead with around 300 tickets to our 150.

After feeling unstopable at my flag and losing Im basicly kinda like gdi. As I spawn back at our base like a gift from god I find the fighter bomber jet is up. So I jump in and take off. Being the amazing pilot that I am this is kind of a kick in the face to our enemy. As our forces failingly attempt to retake a flag I come flying in and bomb their forward lines. Within minutes of me taking to the air our steady ticket drop was frozen as we regained control of the entire map. Lead by my insane flying skills we came back to win the game 70-0.

I had 102 kills with the next closest person with 20 some. The enemy couldnt get into a tank without me destroying it two seconds later. You actually saw many people just leaving after getting slaughtered over and over.

GG!

nice job maj, wish I had those kind of skills

I'm still kinda in the dark about the different roles you can play and what all you need to accomplish to win instead of just killing people.

I do well in gun vs gun battle but I really suck at taking out tanks and accomplishing objectives/getting flags

Mutt
06-15-2005, 02:24 PM
Im good at tagging things and driving. ok at 1 v 1.
Put me in a helo or a plane? Yea Im dead in like 5 seconds. Helos go up and then do a back flip every damn time.

I think I got the bomber working once, well long enough to eject out

Took me forever, but i finally got the hang of the choppers in battlefied: vietnam. Is it a similar style in bf:2?

Gnioss
06-15-2005, 04:38 PM
Each individual aspect of the game is okay, flying helos and driving tanks and being rambo infantry and all that is fun, BUT! The game is only really really really fun when you put them all together as a squad and use them to accomplish objectives. Today I was playing in a really good 5 man squad with 3 on the ground, one gunning for my helo, and me flying. Whenever the infantry would come up against something they couldnt handle like an APC or a tank or whatever they'd just light it up and me and my gunner would come out from under cover and obliterate it. Helos in bf2 are very very very useful, but only when you use them together with infantry on the ground.

Gnioss
06-15-2005, 04:39 PM
Inf: the helos in bf2 are very very simple to fly if you have a joystick. If you can fly them in bf:V you can probably fly them in bf2.

how do you switch firing modes on the guns? i.e. Auto, Semi-Auto, fire the grenade launcher on the M203?

And how do you switch the firing modes on the Predator? i know you can control the anti-tank missle... but how?

anyways... Spec Ops 4tw! love goin behind enemy lines and blowing shit up with C4 (attach C4 to chopper/enemy a/c, watch random noob run to vehicle... and BOOM!) :crushT: :crushT:

Maj
06-19-2005, 05:01 PM
To switch weapon modes you hit the weapon key. For example if Im using the AK and want to switch from its default fully auto mode to single fire mode Id hit the 3 button again.

Weapon Nade is effectively a totally different weapon number, so you use either you corrisponding number or the mouse wheel to cycle too it.

Switching firing modes in Jets can be done by hitting the key or using the F key to cycle weapons or the mouse wheel again.

Switching firing modes in gunner positions is done with right click to go into bomber mode view.

Anti tank rockets are controlled by clicking and holding mouse1.

I also perfer Spec Ops but for me its because I find the weapon to be better then the Assault. While true the Assault has the weapon nades I perfer the Frag nades S-O gets over Assaults Smoke. Both have their uses but Ive been extremely successful pitching a nade or two over a wall to take out a couple guys. That and S-O has longer sprinting if I do remember correctly.

Mostly I use the C4 as defense. Throw two on the ground on the road leading up to your most forward flag and usually you can stop enemy armor that moves to capture the point. One of the funny things that Ive done is you get those guys that speed around in Jeeps trying to run everyone over. Well you throw a C4 down and back up 10 feet while they come for you and set it off.. GG newber.

btw, you guys need to get ahold of me on AIM or Xfire if you're doing something in BF2, Unless Im in a scrim Id love to join. Unfortunately between a few different clans I dont really have the opertunity to jump in TSP vent atm. But if you guys are playing Id gladly hop over and frag it up.
