Basically this program will index your entire hard drive so when you want to search for anything ... a Dave Matthew's Band song, a picture of Mutt, etc, etc.. you can do it in Google kinda time (less than a second usually), as opposed to the crappy Windows search which takes forever.

This is similar to what will happen when the next version of Windows (currently called Longhorn) will have in it's file system.

For better or for worse I'm sure Google will be analyzing all your searches as well.... Also keep in mind that keeping a detailed searchable database of all the crap on your drive does not come free in terms of processing time or resource usage. The work has to be done somewhere/time.

If you want to search fast buy a SSD. Doesn't quite have the heuristics of Google but you don't need a database when you have 50-60MB/s random read throughput! ;)

My 180GB Vertex 2 searches like a bawsss! Oh and Z not 50-60... 200-300 :)

I think Google knows enough about us already without knowing every single thing that is on our computer.
