It looks like their pre-sale kept them afloat and they are now ready to launch before May.
http://www.darkandlight.net/article.php3?id_article=1859&lang=en
They should be opening more beta accounts begining in March to complete server stress tests.
...and another game will get launched before DF2.
Imagine that!

Yes...it looks to be bigger than UO and AC. I think that RoT (Mourning) was slightly larger, but it imploded 3 weeks before delivery.
Besides...they have alternate modes of travel in D & L (including horses, griffons, and dragons).

Pretty big map. Website doesn't look very appealing though.

Do we have many considering this still? I'd like to pick up one more MMO to play along with DDO to avoid burning out.

I am loving the beta so far and the release date is just around the corner.
It is probably the only MMO I will be playing for a while.

my freakin god...... that map is insane...... i would hope that alternate methods of travel would be easily available.
There has to be a TON of content too..... wow... i gotta check this out. I could care if their website looks like crap if they put all the work into the game.

ok so finally watched the video......
a couple things from that video.
1) EQ2 style graphics, interface, and combat system
2) being that it's still in beta, mob graphics seemed a little weak. Would like to seem the final result.
3) PvP or no? Couldnt tell anything from that video.
4) if the graphics werent finished i imagine it'll take a beast of a system to run it.

Yes there is PvP but in limited areas. It isn't wide open like SB...though I havn't logged nearly as much game time as I would have liked to explore all the paramaters.
The true joy of the game is that the world itself constantly evolves. There are a limited number of areas/ forts that can be taken...and this changes as different ones are captured and must be retaken before being settled again. Also, people can actually advance in rank in areas (i.e. lord/ baron...) which effects how many followers and mercinaries you can hire and defensive upgrades you can buy. It is a nice blend of supremecy through numbers (i.e. zerg warfare) and rewarding efficiency and and execution.
Even the map system, while showing basic geography, will only update specifics (i.e. player/ building growth) as you physicly travel through them. Though, this can be done quicker using transport systems (magic travel) as well as scanning from above on the back of a Dragon, Griffin, or even a glider.
There are also quests and and story changes that revolve around what players/ guilds are doing.
Lastly, regarding graphics, the reccomended tech specs call for a p4 2.4, just under 1gig of RAM, and a 256 GeForce6/ ATI X.
I think it will still be buggy at release...but looking at the progress that has been made so far, I think they have alot of dedicated personell to make things right. By the way...there are no zones so there is no constant geographical loading when you walk over an imaginary line.

Aye...though if you read some of the debate on their boards, or in the D&L IRC channel, it is still touch and go.
Beta closed last week and this week they started stress tests on the main game server. It has been causing a bunch of issues and it remains to be seen what the turn-around time will be on fixing them. Also, there will be no "ship date" as they are just selling product codes to download...which is a giant red flag to many.
Personally, I think they will release on time...and the game will be very buggy (which sounds alot like Shadowbane 4 years ago).
It promises to be a very interesting week...
Sooo..why is TSP not showing much interest in this, likewise with other guilds as well?
I have just heard that there were a lot of SG problems and caused a lot of negative publicity... bnut thats just what ive heard

Because it is one of those games that got hyped, and was supposed to be released years ago but kept going back to the drawing board.
Plus...it is programmed and operated by the french.

Ubi is french canadian, no? which imo is worse...at least the french live in france...those french canadians want to bring france to canada.
Also Vivendi (or something) is french and they are one of the 5 top media companies in the US. They own Universal and various other companies.

No wonder Blizzard takes so long to release games. Vivendi is afraid of German repercussions!

I'll be in-game all next week. Considering that there were a billion bugs a week ago, the reports of thousands of them now isn't all that bad. So far, they seem to be making huge strides daily...and I need a new game to play.
So D&L is it for me!

Thinking of playing dark...waiting for initial bug and class balance issues from the first wave of people to make it's way to the boards and irc. General server opening is still days away and they are patching twice a day.
If by the end of this week it looks like the general release is going to be smooth...i'll take a few vacation days on the 5th, 6th, 7th and grind it out to determine group/guild viability. Alot of the "end game" stuff is only playable with a med-lrg guild.
Those forums need a face lift though, bad color scheme
