melee mage?
That's not too hard to believe, other games have taken that path
I'd definitely be a druid, seeing as how I'm a treehugger IRL
Conqueror gets to lead the charge with a banner, I wonder who would be fit to do that..

Couple classes that caught my attention we're Conqueror, Liberator, Barbarian and Reaver.
yeah it seems to be a cool idea with pretty nice variability

Yeah I liked the Dark templar too, don't know about sword/shield in pvp tho, but might work out nicely.
If I find I cant aim worth a shit I'm going to tank

One word comes to mind:
Banal.
"Drearily commonplace and often predictable; trite"
how so? A million of these type of games have come out, how are you going to vary class names? Darkfall will be just as generic. Atleast with this game they took the storyline and incorporated it into classes

Well look on the bright side. With these new MMOs, you have to aim...so you can just try to duck and weave.

It's not about names it's about the class based system of character creation and development.
I've been playing RPG's since 5th grade...I guess I would be 11 years old or so. So for the past 20+ years I've seen tons and tons of games where character creation and development are clones of each other. There have been exceptions but AoC doesn't seem like it is. AoC class system appears to be drearily common place and very predictable.
I am however looking forward to seeing how the combat system is. Anything that involves player skill (rather than character skill) is a plus in my book.
Darkfall has a class system too, or is it skill based? So I don't have to pick a class and be stuck with it's limitations? Or can, for example, a mage take up sword skill in addition to the standard mage-like skills? Whether it's good for a mage to use a sword isn't the issue, but rather if I can, if I so desired.
yeah, my bad. Darkfall is all skill based with what sounds like a ton of skills..similar to UO. My cousin played UO and I guess some of the developers left UO to start up DF, and that'd make sense. But I could still bet that Darkfall has a lot of the "stuff to be expected" that other games already have. My worry with that game is the sheer amount of uniqueness and vastness of everything..and if thats why everything is taking so long-or if they'll be in over their heads once it starts
Combat system in AoC is pretty dang awesome. Like DF, there is no targetting. Everything is either aimed or combined. I would say that if you want to compare its combat system to a game, it would have to be a lot like Mount and Blade.
Melee combat is pretty neat too. Your sword swings are not just directed at one person, they hit everyone/thing that your swinging through. And for PVP formations can make a world of difference.
Anyway, no it might not be like the re-invention of RPG, but you can only really go so far with that.

Hrmmm well if there's collision and the whole hitting everything you swing at there could be some intresting stuff you could do, doubt you'd be able to form very many formations and stuff but it's a start I guess
Slak is the elite fanboi who single handedly keeps alive our thread on those guild boards.
Except when I try to make fun of him to up the post..
