So the last two times that I've restarted my computer I've recieved this message just before the XP loading screen comes up:

"Your primary IDE 0 disk drive is operating outside normal specifications. Please back up all files and contact Dell customer support."

Well that's the jist of it anyway. Is my hard drive hooped? My computer's running just fine right now, but that message makes me think it'll be kaput real soon here. I was thinking about reformating before WoW anyway, but will that solve my problem, or is it a physical one? Do I need to buy a new hard drive? Any help would be appreciated.

Try booting into safe mode, backing up your files that you want to keep, and reformatting.

Backup your stuff and contact dell :)

Sounds like either disk corruption or an imminent crash, hard to tell on an HDD til it goes totally south.

hey every little bit helps. if your HDD is going bad the one i posted is a great buy, for only 120 bucks. That is if your comp supports SATA

Gnioss

that is correct.

I wouldn't pay extra for SATA, but if my mobo had it onboard and I could get a SATA drive at the same price as a regular ata133 I'd buy it.

I'll be waiting for SATA-II myself before I switch over.

SATA is totally uber, from increased airflow to higher transmission speeds to longer cable runs. It's just pwnage no matter how you look at it.

Not to mention SATA drives are generally no more expenisve than ATA ones. Only thing is you need to have SATA on your mobo.

I don't think air flow is a good argument since most people these days run with rounded cables, noober!

People concerned about airflow do, people who dont use the standard IDE cables that come with their system or mobo.

rounded cables are still bigger then SATA cables.

Some of the SATA drives coming out of Maxtor now are decent, but for the past while, since SATA came available, the only real benefit has been the smaller connectors. Most drives were just ata 100 drives fitted with SATA connectors.

The exception to that statement were the Raptor 36gb and 74gb 10k RPM drives *the ones that sounded like dustbusters and ran hot enough to burn you.

But like I said, I'll wait for SATA-II myself, 300MB/S transfer rates is a much bigger jump than just 133 to 150.

Well since you now have your own generator you can dedicate to computer cooling, you should be able to power a liquid nitrogen coolant system.

why do i need a generator??

most WC pumps will run off a decent PSU...

Meh watercooling is too expensive, maintenance, water additives, initial cost. Adds up to about the price difference you'd have paid to buy the higher end processor that you're trying to OC the lower end one to.

I'll stick to aircooling, zalman for the quiet, and thermalright for the performance.

well im running a AMD3500+ at 2.4 atm

i dont have 1 grand to fork out on a 3800 or FX53/55 so for 250-300 bucks i can make my comp quieter (im currently running a thermalright slk948U with a 92mm vantec tornado on it) and i can run at about 280HTT (probably 300HTT if i tried hard enough)

on top of that I could then peltier my video card and OC it to 600 mhz core, 1200 mhz memory and it run under 30 C (i can only do 520/~1000 and it stay at a decent temp range)

C'mon now

3800+ is only 608
4000+ is only 727

What's an extra 4-5 FPS anyways :)

Course you could always drop the grand and get a VapoChill or Prometeia.

You'd be insane to run a pump off your powersupply. Get a 120VAC pump.

How old is the hard drive?

Most have a 3yr warranty.

Coming up on three years in 5 days I think, or is it four years? I'll check.
