Not to sound like a broken record, but here you can download the footage from the Eve tournament this past summer.

It may be a little hard to appreciate if you don't know much about the game, but some things I'd like to point out:
There's a pretty good mix of ships here. It's not all battlecruisers. Some of the guilds are using frigates as target painters.
It's harder to get a lock on a ship the smaller it is. And when there are larger ships in the area it becomes harder to target a smaller ship, and there are devices to make it even harder. The target painter makes it easier to get a lock-on.
Additionally, it's a lot easier for a small ship to obtain a lock.
It's just one of the things they do so that the end game pvp doesn't get dominated by battlecruisers.
They also have healing in the form of power transfers and repair drones.
There's also a bunch of really neat devices you can equip on your ships if you have the skills to use them, like cloaking and EMP.
Anyway, I guess the one thing you can get out of the videos without knowing much about the game is that the PvP isn't some 5-second affair, it can take a while. And there's some real strategy too it, and a lot of different ways to build your fleet.
