It was alright, I liked the system for skills a bit.

It just didn't addict me like all the other FF games have. It was just ok.

Hmm really? I was contemplating on getting another PS2 just to play the game, but I guess I just made my decision lol.

I'll write a big long rant after I finish this furnace run... the short of it is the game is basically all graphics meant for the modern day gamer that has no interest in story or mechanics.

That would be disappointing if true
I won't be able to play those games for a while but they always did a real good job

Alright so here's my rant...

Basically the game starts off very very slow, and stays that way for to long(talking like 10+ hours here), and it's basically a here's the game figure it out on your own to, there's a brief tutorial on how to fight and how gambits should work but it doesn't go in depth and tell you things like katana's hit for less each hit but combo more often then greatswords or it doesn't tell you guns ignore armor, it doesn't tell you axes/hammers can hit like trucks or like little girls or that axes are faster than hammers and deal less per hit. It just shows you the attack power of the weapon and that's it.

I basically found I also HAD to stop frequently to grind to catch up on levels and upgrade my equipment as gil was way to hard to come by and that was with using only 3 characters, I never used the other 3(have like 3 lvl80's and 3 lvl10's).

The combat is easily exploitable later in the game when you can just have 1 dedicated healer and haste, berserk, bravery 2 melee fighters with big weapons and club any boss down in about 30 seconds. Without doing that the bosses would be incredibly difficult and require about 10x as much mana as you could possible have and probably thousands of gil worth of items you don't have and require cast times that again you wouldn't have time to do. The quickenings and summons are useless, they serve no purpose other than to drain your own mana. The gambits can be set up to do what I describe so essentially all I do is move from one monster to the next, nothing else... no challenge required. Except for flying mobs... then I have to dispel the berserk and have them use telekenesis but that's hardly difficult.

The custume design drives me insane... I mean it's one thing to be fantasy oriented but who wears a leather jacket with belts attacked to the flaps!? WTF IS THAT?! Or runs around in a wetsuit, or a 3" mini skirt? It's just so wierd when you look at the situations their in. The characters themselves are monstrosities... I'm not quite sure what to call them, they have the most akward conversations that all you can do is sit there and /facepalm .

The storyline is very typical and really didn't have enough big "OMG!!" moments. Everything was far to predictable.

All though after finishing FFXI I playe a game called okani or something... was really really unique, the art style made you feel like you were in a japanese painting or something, it was really cool. I'm probably gonna pick up rogue galaxy but my patience with 2nd rate console RPG's is running thin.
