So I installed Vista the other day... and I dont see why so many people were complaining so much about it. Its a great UI, and the search thing (also can be used just like the old run bar in the start menu. Honestly, I couldnt go back to XP now b.c of the new tabbing feature. Its awesomesauce. :smile_ok:

Yea Vista got alot of latent MS hate. There are definate driver issues (as with most any new OS) and the question of, does it do enough to warrant an upgrade cost.

If you are running XP, there is no reason to rush to it, but I think given a service pack or two it might get fleshed out nicely.

I don't hate Vista, I just have no reason or desire to use it now, or anytime in the forseeable future. Perhaps when DX10 games come out, and I have actually upgraded to a DX10 Video Card, it will hold some value for me. For now I'm enjoying the first 100% stable system I've built for myself in many many years, and I ain't about to monkey around with that stability.

Unless you have a reason to upgrade, don't. If you're getting a new computer or rebuilding or something like that and have to install a new OS, then might as well do it anyway. If you plan ahead and know you're running Vista, you can take the time to get stuff that is known to work. I'd venture to say the vast majority of problems people have with Vista are driver related and should be placed entirely at the mfgs for failing to produce a functioning driver after a very very very long private and public beta test. Creative is probably one of the worst with even their high-end x-fi cards still missing a considerable amount of functionality including dolby digital decoding on spdif inputs, spdif passthrough, and various other features (oh, and EAX lawl).

Ya, in terms of gaming its not the greatest (especially w/ my low end system), but in terms of doing work and flipping through a bunch of windows its definitely worth it.

Just was suprised that vista wasnt as horrible as some made it out to be was all.

this thread makes my head hurt. vista is a retarded waste of money, and yes i have seen it. if you disagree with that then you too are a retard... or havent used a real os before (something released in the last 5 years).

Vista is so bad that Dell has started selling boxes loaded with xp again because of all the complaints. The ui and search features are nice though I've really enjoyed them in osx for years now.

Yup, no reason to move to Vista as of yet unless you
1) Got a beefy vid card and can afford the performance hit that exists atm (unless you run WoW which performs better)
2) Got a new system and dont want to upgrade the OS down the line
