I'm actually going to run into some folks from Mythic at a BBQ this weekend. I'll see if I can't scrounge a pre-release fansite kit or con some beta invites out of them.
-W
Whisper, offer Cinns services for beta invites.

Mutt, you're supposed to offer something enticing, in order to get the beta goodies :insane:

Put a beard on Cinn and he can go around on all the gamingcons as a Warhammer Dwarf. Pretty great advertisment if you ask me. Or you could dress him up as a Goblin, they are short too!

I didn't like what I was hearing in the videos. :blanked: :yawner:

From what I have heard and read thus far about the pvp in WAR, it will not be something I would consider highly worthwhile. I haven't watched those vids yet so I can't comment on them. I truly wish that we, as a guild, would get more beta invites. I feel that our hybrid style of RP and PvP gives us a great advantage in what we have to offer up as far as suggestions on improvements over l337 d00d pkers or straight up carebears.

The one thing I heard that I liked was PvP with meaning.
If there are points in game that you can fight for, and the point has significance, I'm interested.
They could completely fix wow if they turned the entire map into one giant alterac valley, and you win the game if you kill all of the other faction's main leaders (no small feat).
So as soon as you log in you join the war effort.
The map resets once one side wins.
The winning side gets access to a special dungeon that can only be raided by the faction who won the last round. The lewt could be side-grades to Kara lewt, but have better/different/cooler graphics.

It's just as meaningless as WoW pvp. You fight in instances and if you take over a zone you change the textures(oh joy!) then you can fight and take over your enemies capital at which point you get zerged by NPC guards and everything resets and your back at square 1.
Instanced PvP 4tl.
lol we all want to burn shit down. But SB is the only game that offers that atm.
VG has it in the works possibly, but who knows how far out that is, could be over a year.
If its a fun pvp mechanic (which we wont know until we see it) then its hard to write it off just because of the fact its instanced, because right now everything else is instanced too.
AGE OF CONAN! (shameless plugging :))
I think its too early to say what WAR will or will not have. Theyre obviously aiming to please the PvP crowd, and they have experience on an RvR like game.

Not true, oh denizen of Canadia.
VG has 100% total FFA PvP. Anytime, anywhere.

I mean as far as objective PVP. WoW has FFA PvP too (except shat). They call it world pvp (aka ganking newbies)

It's RvR really not FFA pvp. You can't as a member of alliance turn around and kill another alliance member outside of arenas. In VG you can kill anyone, anywhere without worrying about guards and stuff.
Ah ok. That is a step in the right direction from WoW imo. I think everyone pretty much wants to kill alliance, even those of us on alliance.

Numb: "Hey guys I'm afk a minute."
Cinn: "Mutt, why are you killing Numb again?"
/snickering in vent for 5 mins
Numb: "WTF!!11 Why am I dead! that is some f'd up shit man, seriously, why would anyone do that? Its not funny man. Can someone lend me some cash to repair?"
/crickets in vent, except Mutt, who is still giggling

I'm also very much interested in AoC.
I'm just hoping that there is going to be a game with sieges. If L2 wasn't such a ridiculous grind, with cookie cutter classes, and no balance, I would still be playing it because it has castle sieges.

Mutt, the VG server we are on is total FFA PVP. There is NO safe place. Not at the bank, mailbox, auction house etc. Not in your racial home city. Anyone can kill anyone, anytime.
There are no instances. When you are in a dungeon doing a quest, you have to worry about being jumped by other players. Its great! <smile>
We can go into a town, a harvesting area, mob spawn or dungeon and contest other players for it.
We can see one of our lower level players ride by a group of higher level Guildies. Mythik does not notice us. We chase her down, snare her ...... and buff the heck out of her. lol.
Vanguard has really brought back a sense of danger and guild closeness I found missing in WoW. Here I know the guild needs me, and I it, everytime I log on.

Darn right we need you, Stony! I curse your absence every time I have to smash my gimp heal button...
You make a good point Stony. The constant threat of gankings do make the guild stick together more, and invoke a closeness as as result.
Its kind of a weird social mechanic if you think about it. Something that is thesis worthy in university imo.

I'm also a big fan of open pvp.
Mutt, IMO ingroup/outgroup social dynamics apply. Pressure (even perceived pressure) from the outgroup promotes closeness within the ingroup. But using a virtual world for a thesis or something seems like an interesting thing to do.
I believe the game itself filter the type of player you will find in the game, for example, sb are not friendly to anyone who cannot step up and put up a fight, hence, people who play the game have the mind set of competitive pvp to begin with, create a gd pvp environment would be much easier,
the thing about wow is the game does not filter the type of player play in the game, from expert to super nob to someone's gf that never touch a computer before play wow, different type of player have different demands for the game, how do the developer make their choices on who to please, easy, who are the bigger bunch, and expert/mature mmorpg players are not in that bigger bunch!
wow make stupid mistake (imo) to promise to please every type of player, which i say is close to impossible, the pity method of creating server on pvp foucs and pvp focus are not even implemented well at all.
ps: I cancel my wow account for the time being... i work full time and have a part time job at nite! no gaming for me for a long time!

Thats what happens when you make a game to try and please the masses just to say, we have X amount of subscribers, instead of making a good game for specific crowd.
