I got into the alpha testing for this game and thus far I've found it to be absolutely awesome for pvp. It's not a MMORPG in the traditional sense, it's very much like guild wars where you queue up for arenas non stop however it's taken it to a whole new level of awesome.

Check out their site:
http://www.unleashthefury.com

For a bit more info head to this fan site:
http://www.fury-sanctuary.com/

You can very much jump straight into the action as soon as you enter the game but you will get a fair bit stronger as your rank up and are able to get more skills and equipment although not nearly as much in other games.

Be a good idea to head over and sign up for the beta if your interested but I'd certainly keep this game on the radar it'll be big.

Hmm,

Whats the max ##v##?

This is alot like what I wanted to do with a half-life mod. Is this FPS combat or target /cast combat?

Drekor

Right now they have several maps, bloodbath is a FFA map up to apparently 32 people although typically it's been about 10 people. Elimination is group based FFA(groups are 4 each), vortex is multiple group objective based much like AB in WoW, you need to collect crystals to win. Fortress is suppose to be 32v32 but it's not in the current build.

It's FPS paced, it's third person view and WASD style movement similar to WoW and nearly all skills are instant cast or damn near close so you can be constantly moving and you do need to target someone to use most abilities although there are many exceptions.

They are seriously beefing up the number of people in beta on july 6th-9th weekend(thousands more), so if you want in make sure you're signed up before then.

This video (http://files.filefront.com/Furymkv/;7881502;;/fileinfo.html) was made by another player and it shows off some gameplay as well as deathblows. It's mostly cookie cutter destroyer stuff.

You'll need the CCCP (http://www.cccp-project.net/) (codec pack) or VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) (standalone player) in order to play the video. Also note you need a pretty fast computer to play it back without stuttering. If your computer is too slow to play the video at full speed, download this codec pack (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Codec.htm) and install *only* the included CoreAVC. If you have the CCCP or FFDshow already installed, disable H.264 decoding in its video codec settings to activate CoreAVC. Note that VLC does not support CoreAVC.

If you get into the beta go onto gold server, that way I can help you out with deciding what direction you may want to take. You can create some pretty basic builds that work well although they are typically straight forward and easy to counter, I've made a couple builds such as this one (http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o87/Drekor/SS001copy.jpg) that results in requiring very specific counters which most people do not use and mixes multiple archetypes together(that one has 6 of 8 different archetypes in one build). NDA is lifted this weekend so I can throw out a lot of new info for you guys once I figure out what all the changes are.

I like how the combat looks, what class is the person who made the video playing? Curious to know how the fighting works, is it like GW where you can lvl up then get armor and stuff or is it like Rakion where you join a server, fight, lvl then buy armor with money.

Mijin
07-03-2007, 08:52 PM
wtb edit key T_T. What i meant by join server, fight, lvl is theres a list of servers kind of like FPS game then you join and Death Match or TDM and get XP/money.

Drekor
07-03-2007, 09:17 PM
The person is primarily a destroyer. For melee it's quite easy to tell Big 2H weapons(swords/axes/hammers) are overlords, long weapons(spears/polearms) are warden's, 1h+shield(swords/axes/maces) are champions and dual wield(swords/axes/maces) are destroyers. Casters are all super kung fu. No weapon has an advantage, 1h shield does just as much damage as 2h weapons, it's all in the skills although some skills require a specific weapon(or focus item for casters). As well element plays a big part, typically fire does the most DD damage, nature does the least DD but typically has a DoT portion(which currently sucks), water often snares or always hits but isn't especially great damage, air is typically has water like damage but has solid debuffs that push it's damage up. Overall air is usually #1 dps.

You join a server as a reborn with 6 skills( I think, they increased it just last weekend so I forget), and you jump right into pvp, the matchmaking typically tries to put you with people at your rank or close to it and tries to match organized teams up against other organized teams first(only really applicable for vortex atm). Once you get in you kill people or help do the objectives when the match ends you're awarded "essence" which is used to complete trials.

Trials unlock skills and reward you with skills(although it usually unlocks like 5 skills but only rewards you with one and you get to buy the others if you want them).

You also get money from the match which you can use to purchase skills, go to a weapon/armor vendor and buy gimpo armor, go to an artificer and basically gamble sometimes you get good stuff sometimes you get garbage or you can buy/sell on the auction house.

Also each match gives out loot, the better you do the better loot is available to you or your team. For example bloodbath last few weeks had terrible loot unless you won although vortex which is team based if you put up a good fight you still could get decent loot although winning gave some awesome stuff. However the loot available in vortex is what your entire team sees and you roll on the items(you get 3 rolls slots and you can simply roll 3 times on 1 item if you wish).

As you complete trials you rank up, each new rank gives you more equip points to work with. Every piece of armor needs a certain amount of equip points(you can wear eternal rank armor at master rank if you want and you probably should), every skill you equip costs equip points as well. Higher rank armor and skills take up exponentially more equip points, a rank 1 skill is typically 5 EP, while a rank 10 is like 2500 considering you only have like 80 EP total at rank 1 it's a big difference. Although the biggest difference between rank 1 stuff and rank 10 is a slight bit more damage(and I should enforce SLIGHT, talking like maybe +10 max damage for your MS warrior or something) and HP, higher armor gives innate HP bonuses so you'll have probably 3500 HP rather then 2500 which likely will make a big difference unless you suck.

So you basically level up, gear up and farm money by fighting players and competing in matches, hopefully that long winded rant answers the question ^_^.

As for servers, it's more like guild wars. You have servers which are completely separate from each other and you'll only see other server members in matches. There are different instances of the same place like guild wars so you'll see GATES OF WAR 1 and GATES OF WAR 2 and you can pop back and forth between them. You queue to matches like WoW, you pick which match type you want and you get into a queue, once you finish the match you zone back into the main area and have to requeue. There has been discussion about adding a "play again" feature where it'll replace people that leave but people can stay in similar to a FPS type server but there are other things taking time atm.

So has anyone other than Drekor and I gotten into this beta? I have to say that so far, this game is kickass. There are a ton of bugs and balance issues as can be expected in a pre-beta but if they address these before release, this will be a fun game that doesn't require a lot of time invested. You can just hop in when you feel like it and get to the action. There is no leveling up outside of pvp. The best gear (as of now) is won through pvp and rolled on.

The combat is totally skill-based. There is a large number of archetypes(classes) and tons of skills for each. You can mix archetypes and their skills to customize your build a million different ways.

One of my favorite features is called 'incarnations.' This basically allows you to save multiple templates of skills/gear(both run off of the same pool of equipment points) and switch between them at will. It makes for easy choosing between builds for team play or solo play and quick access to different builds that your team may need for a fight.

I really want to try this game out, but I've yet to get a reply from the beta sign-up. It sounds incredibly similar to Guild Wars... Is there anything that differentiates it? Besides the being able to swap templates at will - which is pretty awesome.

Cinnabar
07-09-2007, 11:24 AM
I can't really say since I didn't play GW beyond beta. I don't remember GW being this customizable though. There's also no primary/secondary profession limitation. You can pick and choose skills from multiple archetypes as long as you earn the points for the particular schools of magic (i.e. life, death, growth, decay, etc.). There are self-imposed limitations in that skills create or require charges for magic types (i.e. air, water, fire, nature) so having the needed skills to build charges for every type is not really feasible. Each magic type also has an opposing type so by using one, the effectiveness of the other is lessened, making it a not-so great idea to use both.

Big differences:

-No limitation on your class
-Charge system instead of mana
-24 skills rather then 8
-Equip costs limit the ranks of your spells/equip(ie using all rank 10 stuff isn't really plausable).
-Powerups all over the place(speed boosts, offense/defense buffs, heals, HoTs, reflect shield)

Oh you have like 1000 inventory slots but no bank currently @_@

GW didn't have an auction house last I played. It had a ton of trade channels that were constantly spammed with sales going on though.

Gotcha. Well Fury does have an AH and hopefully will implement a trade channel as well. That's something I am going to be suggesting.

I'd love to see a group of at least 4 of us running together. It's annoying to know how we'd stomp guilds like LoD and LotD with a group of us in vent. Most of the pickup groups are terrible and with 12v12 matches (vortex[3 groups of 4]), Drekor and I aren't always enough to save the day. ;)

Is this link supposed to take you directly to the regular Beta Signup? If we "enlist a friend" should we have them say "a friend that is a beta tester told me to come here" ?
For the time being if you have a friend who wants to join testing immediately, we suggest you advise them to visit FilePlanet and apply there.

I went and checked out the link on FilePlanet and it said I don't qualify for the pre-beta since my computer specs are too low. I even went back and filled out another ap with the highest specs listed and it still said they were too low.

How extremely lame.

The game needs a lot of performance optimization at this point. Drek runs the low-end renderer and can take a full minute sometimes to load a vortex match. On the other hand, it takes me about 10 seconds + 3 sec lag period on max settings with the high-end renderer. There is a horrible memory leak, though, and the game crashes every hour or so regardless. I got at least 3-4 blue screens over the weekend as well while loading a new zone.

We don't need a particular class as we don't have enough people to cover all our bases. Just read all the descriptions when you do the tutorial and see what you like. You can always change archetypes or use different incarnations.

Heya Cinnabar and Drekor,
Followed the link to this site from the official fury forums. Just wanted to say that I enjoyed melting faces in vortex with you guys this weekend, and I hope to roll with you guys more throughout beta and possibly into release.

Drekor
07-09-2007, 08:20 PM
I didn't meet the min specs kolt and I'm in so that's not a big issue. The low end renderer is a nice thing to have, although the memory leaks on that are not an issue, I've played for hours straight without a crash from a mem leak, although typically my connection boots me once in awhile.

Mij we don't really need specific stuff right now, if we get serious about the game we can discuss more advanced group tactics right now best to just hop in and play what you like, Cinn is buffer/debuffer type, I'm a healer/buffer type so we have a solid base already although I'm out of town this coming weekend so you'll have to bug cinn about stuff :).

As for classes... their not your typically MMO class types but they have similarities.

Overlord - Melee that specializes in disabling opponents with debuffs and doing big damage. Primarily Air based, minors in water and fire. (Air/Water is currently ideal, as the heal debuffs/immunities come from water line).

Destroyer - Melee that specializes in doing lots of damage... they have some positional attacks as well as some stuns/lock downs and buff removal. Primarily Fire based, minors in nature and air(Fire/Nature as destroyers nature line has tons of movement control).

Champion - Melee that specializes in taking lots of damage, they have a lot of damage reduction buffs both short and long term as well as some nifty anti-CC spells as well as some of their own CC. Primarily Water based with minors in air and nature(questionable which way you want to go, water/nature gets you better damage mitigation and water/air slightly better damage).

Warden - Melee specializing in group support, these guys are shifty bastards, they are extremely underrated and have a large supply of group based buffs as well as crippling debuffs to throw at enemies. Primarily Nature based, minors in water and fire(nature and water are ideal due to movement control).

Defiler - Caster specializing in debuffing, they have a lot of tools to make enemies weaker but need a bit of support to get the debuffs on first, not a very typical primary class solo but in a group their amazing. Primarily air based, minors in water and fire(air/water is ideal for adding healer/oracle spells in).

Invoker - Caster specializing in blowing shit up, they AE the crap out of anything then nuke whats left, they have very limited defenses atm although that may change considering I keep poking them about their field spells. Primarily fire based, minors in air and nature(I've yet to see a good invoker... I'd suggest only grabbing utility spells from them or if you must do a nature base with secondary in another class).

Oracle - Caster Specializing in heavy group support and powerful charge manipulation, they have some of the best buffs and damn near everyone takes them, you'll want to get some yourself I'd think. Primarily nature based, minors in water and fire(nature/water is standard because nature heals suck ass)

Healer - Caster specializing in healing and CC, they got all the heals so likely you'll pop into the life school and be picking up mend or enhance for your healing, they also have some nasty CC(8 second AE mez 4tw!). Primarily Water based with minor in air and nature(Water/Nature and Water/Air both work really well, water/nature is a bit more defensive while air is a bit more debuffing and CC)

Keep in mind you can mix and match these so while champions may not be big damage I can say mix a little champion with overlord to produce better results. My current build uses skills from Defiler, Oracle, Healer, Warden and Champion so you can really be spread out if you want. I highly suggest when you are waiting on queues you run around and look at the skills available to other classes as there may be something you could use. Also don't get caught in big numbers being big dps, a lot of people are stuck on moves that can get into 4 digit numbers occasional but how long it takes to get such a move off you could have used 2 smaller moves doing 700 each.

oh and hi thizz! *wave*

Meh...had a feeling everyone would rush the big 2h dood. Wouldn't mind a Champion but i really don't like taking a while to kill things since it gets you jumped or KS'd. Kind of like playing heavy classes also so i wouldn't mind that.
