This is very true. I have actually heard legitimate stories of Americans being treating poorly overseas. And then "disguising" themselves as Canadians to get better treatment.
No its completely true, I have known several people who travel through Europe with their Canadian flag on their backpack so people will just leave them alone and stop badgering them about how horrible we are!

When I worked for Masterlock a few years ago, there was an entire department whose job was to open packages, tear off the Made in Taiwan sticker, and repackage the locks. Give ya one guess where the packaging said the locks were made...

Funny 'cause it's true.
Who wants to help found "Born Again Canadian" town if Bush implements the draft? All's it takes is a 'Made in Canada' sticker on your forehead and the same lawyers international companies hire. ;)

The one thing I will say about the US is, people in this country are greedy...
They want more money for shitty ass workmanship and no worktime at all.
More money for labor = less profits
so we get outsourcing... whats going to happen one day when everything sold in the US is made overseas... What jobs will be here?
guess we will always need House builders, plumbers, electricians, doctors, and lawyers...
Man im definately going into the wrong field... THen again eventually we probably wont have enough land in the US to build anymore houses lol...

I don't brag or toot my horn about the fact that I'm an American when I travel around Europe. But I don't hide behind any other nationality either. I'm American, plain and simple, and if anyone doesn't like it they can piss off. I expect no less from any other nationality, whether Canadian, German, or Czech. Everyone should be proud of the country they live in.
But to be honest I've very rarely had an unpleasant experience from other people while travelling. If you are gracious, polite, and respectful of their culture and lifestyle, people will tend to treat you the same. I can't count the places I've been in Europe (especially former Eastern bloc countries) where I've gotten the reaction "You're an American?!?! I love Americans!".

There will be no draft. The election is over, we can stop the scare tactics.
Aradorn, I bet that sticker reads, "assembled in Illinois."
I've never had a bad experience traveling abroad. I'd agree with Kydorias, people were more interested in striking up a conversation than anything else.
New Jersey is not abroad Armind.
In Sweden we have the opposite problem, you can wear the flag abroad but not in Sweden.
Sadly the swedish flag has become a symbol of neo-nazism and racial hatred. The funny thing is that it's not the extremist that are to blame - the swedish people who are to afraid of being proud of their country and the immigrants who refuse to love their new home are the ones who created this situation.
It really sucks.
